DIN standard for asynchronous transfer of semi-trailers published

Together with its partners DIN e.V., PEM Motion GmbH and FIR e.V. at RWTH Aachen University, MANSIO has developed a standard for a procedure for the asynchronous transfer of semi-trailers in encounter and relay traffic. The standard has now been published by DIN as DIN SPEC 91503.

DIN SPEC 91503 “Procedure for the asynchronous handover of semi-trailers in encounter and relay transport” is the first uniform standard for the safe, efficient and digitally supported handover of semi-trailers in road freight transport. The standardization is intended to simplify cross-forwarding cooperation in the organization of encounter and relay traffic.

Meeting and relay transports enable more efficient use of vehicles, drivers and transport resources. By exchanging trailers halfway or at defined handover points, journey times can be optimized, empty kilometers reduced and rest periods better adhered to. At the same time, they increase flexibility in scheduling and contribute to a more sustainable use of existing transport capacities.

In contrast to synchronous handover, where both vehicles have to be at the same place at the same time, asynchronous trailer handover allows the trailer to be handed over at a different time and place. It therefore offers additional flexibility and is used in particular at trailer yards and in combined transport to further simplify processes and reduce downtimes.

The specification defines the entire process, from order creation and transportation through to the handover steps of unhitching and hitching up. It defines how drivers, haulage companies and platform operators such as MANSIO work together, what information is exchanged and how technical faults in the process are handled.
